Sam Geekie Committs to University of Regina

                

The Yellowhead Chiefs are very proud to announce that Sam Geekie has committed to attend the University of Regina and play hockey for the Cougars in the fall of 2016.  The Strathclair resident is completing her third year with Yellowhead and has enjoyed an exemplary AAA midget career so far.  Geekie has led the Chiefs in scoring in all three seasons and has compiled 69 goals and 48 assists for 117 points in 157 games in that time.  Sam was selected as the teams Most Improved Player in 2013-14 and earned the Top Scorer award in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

The University of Regina Cougars  compete in the Canada West Conference of the CIS.  Sam will graduate from Strathclair Community School this spring and has not decided on a course of study at university.

Chiefs Goaltender Emma Greenwood

Committs To SAIT Trojans

                    

 

The Yellowhead Chiefs are happy to announce that veteran goaltender Emma Greenwood has committed to play for the SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) Trojans in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference beginning in 2016.  The 17 year old Brandon resident has been a member of the Chiefs for the past two seasons after spending one season with the Pembina Valley Hawks.  With the Chiefs, Greenwood has played 50 games over two seasons and this year has been exceptional, with a goals against average of 1.56 and a save percentage of .939.  She was the the MFMHL goalie of the month for October 2014 and November 2015.  Greenwood will graduate from Vincent Massey High School in Brandon this spring and has not finalized a course of study at SAIT.  Greenwood will join former Chiefs Captain Tashel Scantlebury on the Trojans roster next season.

Jessi Rampton Committs to MacEwan University

        

 

     The Yellowhead Chiefs are proud to announce that Jessi Rampton has committed to attend MacEwan Univeristy in Edmonton, Alberta and play for the Griffins beginning in 2016-17.  The third year Chief has played in 156 games in her midget career, posting 30 goals and 27 assists for 57 points in that time.  This season, Rampton was selected by her teammates to be an assistant captain.  The Dauphin resident is an honors student at Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School and plans to study in the Bachelor of Arts degree program at MacEwan.

 

     MacEwan University is an undergraduate institution that offers four-year degrees  arts, science, nursing, child and youth care, commerce, communications, and music, as well as diplomas, certificates and applied degrees in a variety of disciplines.  The Griffins compete in the Alberta College Athletics Conference where Rampton will face off against several other recent Chiefs graduates.

Hannah Fouillard Joining University of Alberta Pandas

              

 

The Yellowhead Chiefs are proud to announce that assistant captain Hannah Fouillard has committed to play for the University of Alberta Pandas in Edmonton Alberta in 2016.  The resident of St Lazare is in her 4th year with the Chiefs, playing 191 games in her career to date, scoring 48 goals with 61 assists for 109 points.  This season, Fouillard was a member of Team Manitoba U18 and helped that team to a Silver medal at the U18 National tournament in November.  Known for her speed and relentless hard work, the forward was the Chiefs Rookie of the Year in 2012-2013 and last season was recognized as the teams Unsung Hero and Top Playoff Performer.

 

The University of Alberta is a public research university located in Edmonton, Alberta  and offers over 370 degree programs from more than 300 disciplines from 15 faculties and schools as well as certificates and diplomas, of 1-2 years in duration, which are offered by individual departments.  The Pandas play in the  Canada West Universities Athletic Association of the Canadian Interuniverstiy Sport athletic association and have been one of the elite programs in the CIS, with several national titles to their credit under long time head coach Howie Draper.

Chiefs Captain Jalyn Elmes Commits to University of Minnesota Duluth                                              

The Yellowhead Chiefs are proud to announce that Jalyn Elmes has committed to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth and play for the Bulldogs beginning in 2016.  UMD is a Division 1 NCAA program that competes in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and is located in Duluth, Minnesota.

Elmes is a 4 year veteran of the Chiefs who has played 193 games for the team, posting point totals of 27 goals, 59 assists for 86 points.  She has been an assistant captain the last two seasons and this season was selected as team captain by her teammates.  Elmes was Yellowhead’s MVP in 2014-2015 and a second team all star in the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey league.  She has also been selected to Team Manitoba U18 in 2014 and 2015 as well as Team Canada U18 for a series against the USA this past summer.

A grade 12 student at Crocus Plains High School in Brandon, Elmes has not selected a major at UMD.
