Chiefs Kick Off 2017 with Solid Effort but Negative Result
After a busy month of December, that saw the Chiefs face some tough competition including a trip to the Mandi Shwartz Memorial Tournament in Wilcox, Sask and a two game sweep of Norman in Thompson, the team started 2017 with a home game against Pembina Valley.
A win would move the Chiefs up in the standings and keep a shot a first place in order. The Chiefs would do many things right on this night and control long stretches of the game, but would not be able to get timely scoring.
All the scoring would come in the first period, with the Hawks opening the scoring just over 5 minutes in and then quickly adding another to take a 2 - 0 lead. Just moments later, Tatum Amy would pick up a loose puck off a face off win and fire a high shot that beat the Hawks goalie. The first would end with the Chiefs trailing 2 - 1 but having outshot the visitors 15 - 17.
The Chiefs would own the second period, dominating all areas of the game and again outshooting and outchancing the Hawks. Unfortunately, the team continued to struggle to finish and could nt score. The Chiefs would fire 8 more shots in the third and despite furious pressure as the game wound down, they again would not be able to score. The game would end in a 2 -1 score for the Hawks.
The Chiefs will face Winnipeg in two home games this weekend and look to find a couple of important wins.
