Chiefs Continue January Home Stand

Over the last two weekends, the Chiefs have settled into the Communiplex in Shoal Lake for a series of league games.  The Chiefs have kept pace in the standings with some great efforts.

On January 7th and 8th, the Winnipeg Avros were in town for a pair of games.  The two teams are very close in the standings and the games were closely contested playoff-like affairs.  On Saturday, the Chiefs played  a great first period, outshooting the visitors and appeared to have the better part of the play.  Unfortunately,  the old cliche about playing 60 minutes showed up, as the Chiefs fell asleep for the second and found themselves backed into a corner.  The team would take several penalties and surrender two power play goals in the period.  An attitude adjustmen between periods and the Chiefs had a strong third period by were unable to find the back of the net and fell to a 2 - 0 loss.

The rematch on Sunday was a must win for the Chiefs and the players responded with a full game effort.  The Avros were also looking for the sweep and the game was a well played close game.  The Chiefs would score three goals in the 2nd period, the first from Tatum Amy followed by Morgan Ramsay and Cass Lyttle.  Depsite giving up another power play goal, the Chiefs, backed by the goal tending of Miranda Cook would win 3 - 1.

On January 14th and 15th, the Chiefs welcomed the Interlake Lightning to Shoal lake for a pair of games. Yellowhead would be very consistent on the weekend, compiling two wins, both by 6 - 0 scores.  On Saturday, Karissa Cullum and Tatum Amy scored twice with singles from Jena Barscello and Rylee Gluska.  Sundays goal scorers were Morgan Ramsay, McKiya Mazur, Tatum Amy, Jena Barscello, Cass Lyttle and Rylee Gluska.  Miranda Cook was in goal for both victories.

The Chiefs remain in 4th place in the MFMHL and try to continue the winning ways with a road game in Hartney vs the Westman Wildcats on Wednesday Jan 18th.
