Karli Frederick Commits to ACC Cougars 

     Veteran Chiefs forward Karli Frederick has committed to the Assiniboine Community College Cougars and will join the womens hockey program at the Brandon school in the fall of 2017.  Frederick has been a member of the Chiefs for three seasons and has played in 186 games, recording 68 points on 29 goals and 39 assists while compiling 76 penalty minutes.  The hard working center has been a workhorse for the Chiefs, rarely missing a game and playing in all situations.  The Elkhorn native will graduate from Elkhorn High School this year and plans to enter the Agribusiness program at ACC.  The Cougars will be entering their first full season in the American College Hockey Association Division 2 next season.

Sydnee DeCorby to Join Red Deer College Queens

 

                                                                                     

                                                                                     

 

    Chiefs assistant Captain Sydnee DeCorby has committed the Red Deer College Queens and will join the team in the Alberta College Athletics Conference beginning in 2017-2018.  DeCorby who hails from Binscarth, is in her third year with the Chiefs and has been a steady defenceman in all three seasons.  A solid committment to defence has been balanced with timely offence as DeCorby has played 180 games in a Chiefs jersey, scoring 12 goals and adding 41 assists for 53 points while spending 82 minutes in the penalty box.

Slated to graduate from Major Pratt School in Russell this spring, DeCorby will enter open studies in her first year with a goal of enrolling in an Education degree at RDC in the future.  She will join fellow 2017 Chiefs Grad Karissa Cullum in making the move to Red Deer and will play alongside Chief alumni Kirsten Brown who is completing her second season with the Queens.

Amy Committs to Mount Royal University

                            

 

 

Tatum Amy, in her fourth year with the Yellowhead Chiefs, has committed to Mount Royal University and will continue her hockey career as a member of the MRU Cougars in 2017-18.  Amy is the captain of the Chiefs this season and leads the team in goals and points.  In four years as a Chiefs, Amy has played in 233 games and scored 106 goals while adding 73 assists for 179 points. She has also compiled 134 penalty minutes.    A key member of the 2016 Chiefs Championship team, Amy scored the winning goal in the title clinching game last season.

She is joining a Cougars team that has improved every season in the first 5 seasons of competition in U-Sports, the highest level  of interuniversity sport in Canada.  MRU plays in the tough Canada West conference of U-Sport.  Amy will be enrolling in open studies in her first year with an eye towards entering the nursing program in the future.

Two More Chiefs Commit to College 

 

The Yellowhead Chiefs are proud to recognize two more graduating players who have committed to continue there hockey careers in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference.

 

Lyttle Committs to NAIT

                                        

 

     Cass Lyttle will attend the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology located in Edmonton Alberta in the fall of 2017 and will suit up for the NAIT Ooks in the ACAC.  The Foxwarren resident will graduate from Birtle Collegiate this spring and will be studying Business Administration at NAIT.

     Lyttle is in her third season with the Chiefs and has played in 162 games, scoring 28 goals, adding 25 assists for 53 points.   An assistant captain for the Chiefs this season, Lyttle was selected to Team Manitoba the Under 18 Nationals this fall.  Lyttle is a key defensive forward for the Chiefs and contributes timele offence  She will be joining fellow Foxwarren resident and former Chiefs captain Jordyn Tibbatts with the Ooks.

 

Nicol Commits to Olds College

                                       

 

     Taeya Nicol has committed to attend Olds College in Olds, Alberta will play for the Broncos in the ACAC.  Nicol is completing her second year with the Chiefs, and has played both forward and defence in her midget AAA career.  After playing her first midget season with the Norman Wild where she played 43 games and scored 2 goals and added 3 assists, she has suited up for 92 games as a Chief, scoring 5 times and assisting on 10 others.  A physical player, Nicol has 76 penalty minutes in 135 games in the MFMHL.

     The Gilbert Plains native will graduate from Gilbert Plains Collegiate and plans to enter the Sports Management program at Olds College.

Chiefs Veteran Joining Red Deer College Queens

 

     

                                  

       Karissa Cullum, a 4th year veteran with the Chiefs, has committed to attend Red Deer College next season and will suit up for the Queens hockey program.  Karissa is an honor student at Major Pratt School in Russell and has enrolled in the Kinesiology program at RDC.

       In 4 seasons with the Chiefs, the right winger has played in 200 games, scoring 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points while compiling 58 penalty minutes.  The speedy forward is a tenacious fore checker and a key penalty killer for the Chiefs.   She will be joining the Queens who this season are the defending champions in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference and include Chiefs alumni Kirsten Brown.
